The Nassau County Court is established in the county outside New York City. The Nassau County Court is authorized to handle criminal prosecutions of both felonies and lesser offenses committed within the county, although in practice most minor offenses are handled by lower courts. The County Court in Nassau also has limited jurisdiction in civil cases, generally involving amounts up to $25,000. County Court judges are elected to terms of 10 years. The office of the Nassau County District Attorney prosecutes all serious criminal offenses in the County Court of Nassau, New York.
